It's running way too slow…. like watching paint dry and water come to a boil.

Look on the bright side: By the time you wake up tomorrow the nightmare will be 85% behind you. 90% if you use the election as your marker. Ever think you'd be so excited at the prospect of a Romney administration? Me neither…

        • Duuuuh says:

"excited"?… or just another slightly higher level of meh?

Hope I'm wrong but by the end of January I anticipate looking at another round of "it could have been worse". woo hoo!

          • GaltFan says:

IF Romney unleashes the energy sector like he knows he should then yes, you will be excited. Save the "meh" for that t-shirt ad I see far too often…

I'm not a big fan of the "man", but the Fighting Moderate strikes me as the type to want to make his own version of this (as I have been saying for a month +):

Six months ago the "Leave it to Beaver" candidate garnered my disdain. Now? I think he may be forced by "history" to mimic Reagan as closely as he can. Call me a silly optimist, but the beating we have taken – and the participation in the counter-offensive by "corporate money" – suggests to me that Capitalism is in for a long overdue defense on moral grounds. That in itself should propitiate some the "social" values argument quite a bit. Time to get back to earning your place in America…

What am I thinking about? Sometimes I have to split radio time between live streaming and, well, an actual radio. Today I had a few hours of both. I live in the Chicago area and the top of the hour news story was 9 people shot to death over the weekend, along with dozens of others wounded. I picked WBAP (DFW) today and it seems their big news is three deaths (not murder) at a lake and a bridge getting hit by a truck.

    Wow.

    • ChiTownTom says:

Here in Chicago we also get to listen to irReverend Jesse Jackass blame all the gun violence on Chuck's Gun Shop in the south suburbs. I can't believe the media gives that puke airtime. (Ok, I can believe it…)

The most violent place for news I remember was Indianapolis when I was stationed at Ft Harrison, it was a long time ago. We had EARLY formation, I was up everyday at 04:30 and caught the morning AM radio news, replete with all the agricultural statistics, commodities prices, farmers weather, Baby Pig Chow commercials and the most violent news stories I had ever heard, mass family murders, folks setting trailer homes on fire, sheesh.

Later, I was stationed at Walter Reed and then Marion Barry came along and I got a whole new perspective of violent crime. But, Scarface is still one of those old movies I will watch once ever few years. Good wholesome drug violence!

"In Cold Blood" just played on TCM in the wee hours of the morning last week. Gruesome movie.

I was born in Chicago. Raised in Lombard, then Glendale Heights.

My Grandparents lived in Chicago- in an apartment above the walgreens on Halsted. They had a large roof tar yard. It was pretty interesting playing sports on the roof.

I remember in the mid 70s there was a report of a murder a block and a half from their apartment. My dad and my aunt took the initiative to move them out of there.

I moved to CA in '79. Since then Glendale Heights has become a cess pool for gangs. I never looked back. I'd rather live in Oakland than Chicago.

      • GaltFan says:

Where I live is still quite nice, though changing very slowly. Reports of murder are near non-existent (it's been years), and robberies/mugging/burglary are practically unheard of. I don't pay real close attention, but I'm pretty sure there have been zero reported rapes in my lil' corner here in years. I worked in Glendale Heights for about 7 months. I took a crappier job for lower pay just to get away from there…

Chicago? I won't go there mostly because I don't care to contribute a dime to their coffers, but safety has become a real concern since Rahmbo took over…

        • GaltFan says:

Heh heh! I've been hanging on your thread here waiting to find out. Makes no difference to me who won, but I'm glad you're happy…

          • spaceracer423 says:

yeah- it was a wierd series.

Last night we won in the 9th.

            Baylor walked our first batter,
            got an out,
gave us a two strike single,
gave an error to load the bases,
hit a batter to score the tying run,
then hit another batter to score the winning run.

Oh well, a win is a win.

        • Red47 says:

          Congrats for your team!
This little piggy is going to Leon, IA. Not for any contest. Tell my mean looking Razorback cousins hey for me.

As a follow up to that story about the Coney Island school who wouldn't permit the kids to sing "God Bless the U.S.A.":

Fox & Friends had on one of the students and his mother. Please watch at the link:

    http://www.theblaze.com/stories/this-5-year-old-s...

Brings a tear to your eye. And I think it's interesting to point out that the mother states that the school is very "diverse" and no parent had a problem with the kids singing the song. Also, apparently, at the school they do say the Pledge every morning and have sang patriotic songs.
