In Egypt, Parliament matters not alot…..Infested with Islamists and Sharia enthusiasts..
It's who the Army wants that will carry the day…That would be ..Ahmed Shafik

  2. ret_cpo says:

This is most likely good news. The parliament was mostly Islamists. The military rules. As I understand the situation there, this would be to our benefit.

    • Duuuuh says:

It might be to our benefit… but then you gotta factor in our Blunder in Chief. I'm sure he will find someway to take disadvantage of it.

  3. ret_cpo says:

    No doubt about it.

    As a reminder: http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Peace/2011/02/09/A-B...

"It seems almost certain that only direct foreign intervention will prevent the Egyptian military from determining who the next ruler of Egypt will be. All that remains uncertain is the exact identity of that person."

I called it 16 months ago.
The only news to me here is that we now have the name of the next ruler the military has chosen. All they have left to do is count the votes and make the "official" announcement.

      Nice work Sam…

Now how did you get a year old+ article dressed up in new "big" duds. Is that how they archive the old articles now?

      • BronxZionist says:

I just searched for my name on the site and clicked the link that came up and that is what was there. The comments are obviously gone, but the article is there. I have my copy of course, but it's nice to have that timestamped version to show I really did say it way back when.

        • ChiTownTom says:

Having the timestamped version as proof is cool…but most of us here would take your word for it.

          • BronxZionist says:

Yep, I know you all would believe me.
It is my uppity friends who hate having to admit I was right that I need it for. :P

            • ChiTownTom says:

Is that what makes them uppity? ;-)

              • BronxZionist says:

                Yep. :D
They hate having to admit that I'm not an arrogant git because I CLAIM to be right all the time, but that I'm an arrogant git because I AM right all the time – or at least once in awhile.

                • ChiTownTom says:

You are evidently right often enough to pizz 'em off…-Tom

                • BronxZionist says:

Well, it certainly affects things that a lot of them are "liberals" – I live in NYC, and my hobby is dominated by them on the publishing side.
That has the expected effect on how often I am right, and how irked they get about it.

                • ChiTownTom says:

Ahhhh, liberal friends. I get it…

Let me guess…your liberal friends still think it was young progressive Muslims that ousted Mubarak? That these enlightened youngsters would beat back the radical forces at play and establish a westernized democracy in the Arab world. There would be jobs programs for the men and free birth control for the ladies. This would be the first domino to fall and in a few years the Muslim world would be warming up to gay marriage and GoreBull warming.

The bliss of this kind of self-delusion can be intoxicating…and the left drinks it up.

                • BronxZionist says:

Well, my schedule and such has changed so I don't have as much contact with them, but I'm sure they'd need to read that article several times very slowly to understand it.

One of the funniest times wasn't with liberal, but a more moderate guy, from England on an extended visit. I mentioned I was pro-colonialist while he was around, and he was very surprised how I could think that way as his experience with English history told him it was all negative. I just calmly asked him to name one country that had violently thrown off its colonial power that wasn't a complete economic and political basketcase (I was working on the preliminary concepts of what became that nation building series at the time), and he just stopped like he was poleaxed. Easiest one I ever won. :P

                • ChiTownTom says:

                  Pro-colonialist. Ha! …and his head didn't explode?

I can only think of one country that had violently thrown off its colonial power that wasn't a complete economic and political basket case. And If Barry gets another term there might not be any… ;-)

                • BronxZionist says:

Well, he wasn't a hardcore lib, so it just shocked him. The question came close though. :P

There is one primary example – Israel, and one semi-example that made me realize it wasn't really a colonial uprising but a civil war – the U.S. I cover that in that nation building series, which as I said I was working on the seeds of what became that when I had that conversation.
And yes, if the idiot gets another term and we may wind up more like South Africa than Canada, Australia, or New Zealand.

If the military wears pants and the Parliament wears dresses, the military has a psychological advantage.

    Yeah. I know. Good night.

    Hey BZ,
clicked on your link and found your article. Very interesting. Also read all 5 parts of your Nation Building series. Good stuff.
    Thanks

    • BronxZionist says:

      Thanks.
I think there is a need for more policy neutral basic analysis. I certainly have my policy preferences, but I believe you need to start from a neutral analysis to develop a proper program.

      • jerseycowgirl says:

Honestly, I don't know much about that kind of stuff, so I'll take your word for it. But I am learning a lot by reading yours, and others comments here at CV. Very informative.

I gave it a good shot the other day with your 14th amendment debate. I must admit, my head was spinning by the end.
Your fingers must have been sore after all that typing!!
