I think he's just taking it easy because he can. The poll numbers have been steady and actually do favor him. Why move early and risk a mistake – or give Oblamer more time to develop a counter narrative? I would be fine if he kept an adequate profile to keep the race where it is now. When the convention is 5-10 days away it will be time to crank it up a few notches so he generates some buzz and gets people to start paying attention.
I think he figures there is no benefit in peaking early either. Mitt wants to win. A lot of our fellow citizens who have yet to realize it want Mitt to win. Absent a huge mistake on his part, or a theft on Oblamers part – he will win.
Sooo… what you're saying is that Mitt has this election sewed up, and risking a big mistake is more dangerous than truly campaigning for the near landslide win that should be possible if he woke up America's politically disengaged to the dangers of the semi totalitarian statist environment we have witnessed transpire over the last three plus years?
This is basically a tied game, and you seem to be fine with Mitt holding the ball, virtually playing 'keep-away' until the final seconds, when he will go for the three pointer from half court. Normally I am not terribly risk averse, however that one is just a little too dangerous for my taste.
What are Mitt's ideals? Have you heard him extoll the virtues of capitalism, individual liberty and rule of law? I haven't! What does he stand for? It's as if he's afraid to admit how he himself prospered under those basic principles. How many prez election cycles have the (R)s tried to run on an empty ideological tank?
Reagan had it RIGHT! No one since has the testicular fortitude to stand up, look the American people in the eye, and speak about the greatness of the USA. The Left doesn't believe in that credo, and the Republicans have abdicated mentioning it too. Perhaps I'm old fashioned. Perhaps it doesn't exist any longer.
Playing 'scared' is no way to win, and is the indication of an inept, unprepared player. That principle is known by anyone who ever participated in competitive sports. Mitt's scaled back campaign schedule, with three day weekends and images of him living high on the hog, while American citizens are struggling through the highest unemployment figures since the Depression, will not serve him well.
I refuse to don the rose colored glasses now, because in 2008 I believed that an audacious, admitted America hater like THE Current Occupant could NEVER be elected POTUS. I had too much faith in MY FELLOW AMERICANS.
Never again, friend!
There is so much to go after this clown on that there may be……
too little time to get it all out there.
As a fight fan, I have seen too many guys get up off the canvas……
and win.
Mitt, it's NOT just the economy stupid.
Thank you Ralph, I just finished listening to an afternoon of Rush and Jay Severin with Pat Buchanan (a long commute)
they were excellent and both shows addressed the idea that it is not JUST the economy stupid…
We have too many proud 5th generation welfare voters, and three year unemployment benefit receivers contently moving to the disability rolls.. The "It's all about ME" demographics have matured into voters.
Some effort is going to have to be made to pound open a doorway to "shame" for non-performance and "pride" for performance and equate that to an "American Value" again…
There is so much to go after this clown on that there man be…… too little time to get it all out there.
Exactly, Ralph… and precisely why Mitt should be going all out, rather than this half-hearted campaign he is waging.
Time's a wastin'. It's clear, from the last election there are way too many of our fellow citizens who don't dig into the issues as we do, and to this very date may have no understanding of the danger these statist who are currently in power pose to the U.S.A.
Mitt's job is to find them, to inform them, and to lure them to want to participate. Inspiration is his job. Whom is he currently inspiring? Forget us, we're a cinch to vote for him already. He needs to be shopping the vast "middle", so as to be able to enjoy an un-cheatable lead in Nov.
I wish more Fellow Americans had received your same epiphany corn…
I am reading that some in Iowa are still hanging onto those purtty colored specs… sigh… IOWA?? Isn't that flyover country?
No, what I said is that he thinks (probably correctly) that he can accomplish in ten weeks what he now has 16 weeks to do. Why risk a mistake or feed your narrative before you need to? If he did major damage to Oblamer tomorrow don't ya 'spose the media would ignore it the best they could and then call it "old news" before the election? A better analogy would be a superior b-ball team that has an effective strategy and is conserving energy in the third quarter of a close game waiting until the middle of the fourth to unleash their strategy on an opponent that to that point will think they have a shot at winning. Michael Jordan and his boys had that down to an art form for many years in games and series that really counted…
The toss-up states favor Romney even where he is behind (according to flawed RCP averages. Say Ob is "ahead" 47-45 in OH right now according to RCP. (making that up). That leaves 8% "undecided". Most "undecided" have no reason to support the incumbent, and are looking FOR one to support the challenger. Even if he doesn't provide one it is well established that 7/8 will pull the lever for him. That translates to a 52-48% win for Romney…
What Romney believes? At this point is doesn't matter much. He's a collectivist just like the MAJORITY of DC critters – as well as the sheep. Can he be worse than what we have now? Hell NO!!! Would I love it if he gave a stirring moral defense of Capitalism? Hell YES!
Two choices – poison or death. You can recover from poison. I have yet to meet anyone who has recovered from death…

Evn'n Tiger…
Morn'g, GF …
Why risk a mistake or feed your narrative before you need to?
Because the folks advising that this race is in the bag for Mitt may be skewing their reportage… is that completely unthinkable? Sorry, but I'm not convinced that this new study "proving" that undecideds vote for the challenger is applicable in this case. Enjoy your waltz through utopia… I'll only believe Mitt's pulled this one out, when the winner is announced.
What Romney believes?
Yes! Does it not seem strange to you that we carefully avoided that topic throughout the primary season, and now it's deemed too late to concern ourselves with it? WTF??? Just exactly WHEN would have been the proper time to broach the subject? This is clearly the new modern form of political theater, where elections are only a formality, sort of like floor debate in the House and Senate. Just a dog and pony show, to make the peeps feel like they had input, when it's clear as rain, WE THE PEOPLE have NO say in anything.
Collectivism is a cancer, thus it matters not (D or R) who is handing out the treatment. It is only a placebo.
;-);-p***
We didn't avoid that topic in the primaries. We screamed it out loud and jumped from plausible candidate to plausible candidate. They all eventually lost to Mitt. We are faced with voting against instead of voting "for" – again.
The reporting isn't skewed in Romney's favor. My analysis is based on my knowledge of polling techniques and biases. If anything, the polls are overestimating support for O-hole. That study is not new – it is from the late '80s and hasn't been challenged one iota in all of the elections since. It has followed the hallmark of good "science" – repeatability. I'll send you a link if you want, but I'd bet the dry, boring Poli-Sci reportage would put you to sleep fast.
Death or poison Darlin' – that's our choice. 100 million victims of the commies never got to fight back. With Romney's reduced drip we get to live to fight another day. O-hole will kill us – even if not literally and directly.
Fight On, Patriot!
;-);-*
Fight On, Patriot!
Why bother? Heh, heh… Romney has it in the bag… barring a big F up, and that will be hard to commit in seclusion, from his gated compound.
;-* Nite G-p …
That's my analysis too.
It makes the most sense is all…
Yep.
You have it as I do – the tactics and the reasons for them, even noticing that stuff about the polls.
All I could do is repeat it all.
If people do not know who they are going to vote for by now, they probably are not going to vote at all. How could anyone possibly be still sitting on the fence? Either you are voting for Romney, or you are a useless scum sucking leech.
That's the way I see it!
The "undecided" voter is a standard feature in every election. Typically, they're not really undecided, in that they've already decided they don't like the incumbent. They just don't know the challenger yet, and historically, those "undecided" voters always break for the non-incumbent.
I guess I know that, John.
I just feel the incumbent is so vile and anti American that everyone who cares at all about this country should hate this POS and be screaming at the top of their lungs that we need to be rid of him.
First is his unwillingness to engage on issues other than the economy. Second is the lack of Romney's ideological focus.
Babbin is on the money with his analysis of Romney's vulnerabilities, and the true basis for them. Although I love the idea of Jeff Sessions for VP, I believe the man is too important in his Senate seat, to be relegated to Dick Cheney's bunker, after dragging the lethargic Mitt over the finish line in Nov.
Ryan is still too wet behind the ears to excite me. As I've said over and over, a totally Northeast/Upper Mid-west (R) ticket is a mistake for this election.
Go West young man, GO West!!!
Thaddeus McCotter is available.
But Romney already has the Michigan connection.
Thad is cute, however he has turned out to be a better late night tv guest, than serious campaigner. Evidently he couldn't even do a decent job of hiring, or overseeing his campaign staff, for a successful reelection bid. Pardon the frankness, but the "buck" stops with him. He screwed up, big time…
Nor is he from the south, or west U.S.
I don't care whether Romney has the doldrums, what he says, who he picks as VP, etc. I will vote for anyone who is not Obama! Romney won't be the one who lets me down if Obama wins … it will be the pathetic voters who will decide not to vote for Romney because he's not this or he's that. We've seen what Obama is and what he's got in store for us. I'll take any unknown compared to what the Obama regime is doing.
'Never in the field of governance is so much needed by so many and……
is being addressed by so few.'
So let's just have us; the so many, do all that has to be done.
Agree with your sentiments, Chicago Ralph.
F'n right Ralph. We don't need so much governance. We are Americans. I will do for myself…
