Dressing up your post.

Using TAGS to Dress Up Your Comments

by Navy Gentleman

Sometime you may want to pump up your comment with tags. I thought I would demonstrate some of the more common tags supported by IntenseDebate.

How do you strike something out?
< strike >strike< /strike > (enter it just like that but with no spaces)

How do you underline something?
< u >underline< /u > (enter it just like that but with no spaces)

How about italic text?
< i >italic< /i > (enter it just like that but with no spaces)

How about bold text?
< b >bold< /b > (enter it just like that but with no spaces)

How about bold italic text?
< b >< i >bold italic< /i >< /b > (enter it just like that but with no spaces)

How about a block quote?

a big long saying or a lot of text

< blockquote >a big long saying or a lot of text< /blockquote > (enter it just like that but with no spaces)

That should help you express yourself when you want to get a little fancy or just want to dress it up some. Nothing like trial and error to master your tags. Try it out the next time you post a comment and I think you will like it.

Thank you for sharing that Navy.

Back in BB, EOD had some really cool types and fonts he used, never figured out how the heck he did that.

I think it was cowboy that gave me my first lesson on this about a year ago. I was underlining and being bold for weeks. I wrote in italics every chance I got. I was striking so much I was out. Then I realized I was spending 10 minutes prettying up a post that no one was going to read. I learned the hard way to save it for those coveted first replies.. ;-)

  2. CHICAGO RALPH says:

How about just saying something smart.

    • DB523 says:

Well, yeah Ralph, but that comes with this territory. While we chronical the gutting of our way of life we might as well decorate it up nice….

    • DB523 says:

Not that I actually did it…

    • DB523 says:

      'cause I'm lazy….

    • ChiTownTom says:

How about them White Sox? (I know, it's early…)

    • ChiTownTom says:

I knew I should have kept my mouth shut…

Wow! you said that without any tags! I didn't quite understand it- but hey- no tags!

Thx Navy Gent… I was just wanting to make txt little the other day, but never knew about the small thang…
    ; )

    • GaltFan says:

      <small>doesn't work</small>

      • onecornpone says:

Yep… I noticed, did you try "big"??? I was disappointed when I discovered I couldn't play around with some new artsy – fartsy stuff in my comments… Oh Well! I guess sooner or later our "secrets" had to come out… particularly sinde YOU were always offering them up to the masses… >:-]

        Nite GF,

        ; )

        • GaltFan says:

All public here Darlin'. I offered up "tags" to a few like George Sumpthin' and a few others. Glad you learnt how to use them. Corn comments are well received on the merits of their own wisdom, though the "dressing" does add some to it. RinkyDink when ya add it all up… It's the ideas that really matter…

HTML tags…cool…thanks NG!!! Now can you get those fun little icons to work??

    http://www.thisboardrocks.com/forum/misc.php?do=g...

    • To get a check mark, hold the Alt key down then type 251 on the keypad and let go of the Alt key √

You can find the decimal number to type in at http://www.asciitable.com

    • Can't do the animated icons yet on this site. It is a bandwidth killer.
      :) :(

      • GaltFan says:

Better off without IMO. They can distract the ladies some – or at least some of the ladies… Trust me… ;-)

      • Billyb9 says:

That was back in the day! 28.8 dialup- animated gif's just came out, and everybody on the chat boards wanted to show how clever they were. Slowed everything down to a snails pace. Nobody wanted to go to chat rooms until they were regulated.

OH- I just exposed how old I am! Next thing you know I'll admit that I still have a collection of 8 tracks- but I don't! Except for the really cool ones- opps- i'd better shut up now….

  5. Thanks NG! Before now, all I could was TYPE IN ALL CAPS.

  6. tiredofit2012 says:

NG I'm wondering if you can put buttons on the Post a new comment area like Michelle Malkin has on her site?

It would also be nice for some color….I'm guessing that needs to be defined in a CSS.

  7. ChiTownTom says:

    Did NG go green?

  8. winstonlabrador says:

Thank you Navy Gentleman and everyone else. I have been clueless as to how this was done. I thought my Mac was the problem.

  9. Billyb9 says:

    WHITE SOX
    CUBS RULE!

So cool! I couldn't get big or small to work on either IE, FireFox, or Safari.- but hey I learned something new today! Cause to celebrate! I'm going to bed.

  10. Billyb9 says:

    <big>CUBS</big>

  11. Red47 says:

Great. Another way to waste my time.

Thanks for the tips. I never can remember those!
