Hi ChiTT. Thanks for reaching out. Things started going bad at work a while ago (McDonough Associates – it was in all the local papers) and then I lost my job in the beginning of July. So I've been feeling a bit down – only skimming headlines, not participating much, just giving thumbs up or down. I think it will help to get back into Navy Gent, though! Hope you're doing well yourself!
McDonough eh. I still think Rahm had his hand in that. Maybe he didn't think the kickbacks were big enough or he is moving in his own "friends of Rahm". I know of a few of Daley's "people" that are now getting squeezed by Rahm. Oh well, I didn't care before but now that I know you were dragged down by this I feel bad. Hopefully you will be back on your feet soon. I know it may not be much but we are here for you if you need an ear to bend. As far as me…I have been out of work for over 3 1/2 years so…I'm doing great.

I agree about Rahmbo's influence, but ever since my conservative "awakening" not too long ago (2006-ish), I hated working for a Daley-owned company anyway. All the comments I saw in the Trib & Sun Times from people that said McD deserved it, I agreed with! It just sucks that the big guys at the top are still there raking in the $$, while engineers like me, who actually did good work and had no idea about the corruption, are jobless. So F 'em!
Anyway, now that I have all this time and the money saved up to take alot of time off, I should try to get involved more, especially in this election year. Are there any local orgs/tea parties you would recommend?

What do I do? That is a good question. In my former life I was a union sprinkler fitter. I guess you could say, like you, I worked for a Daley owned company (the union) and people said they deserved it, but I didn't agree. Now all the big guys at the top are still raking in the $$, while fitters like me, who actually did the work are jobless. One difference between us…I had an idea about the corruption. (sorry for the plagiarism…I'm hoping to catch on at CNN)
As far as my current occupation…let's just say I fell into a pile of poop and came out smelling like a rose. I lost my job two weeks before Christmas and my only son was born a month later. I was lucky enough to be able to be home with my wife during her maternity leave and when the leave was over…I became a stay at home Dad/Mom. I'm kind of like a nanny but for less money. I call myself "the Manny". (I also like "stay at home Tom".) My wife is a mid level V.P. for a large company here in the north suburbs so we are lucky we can swing this type of lifestyle. Eventually I will go back to pipe fitting but our local still has 500 guys out of work (out of 1200 members) and there are no signs of things picking up anytime soon. Many of my former work mates have lost their houses and/or had their lives turned upside down. I won't go back until everyone that wants to work…is back working. I tell my liberal friends that I am trying to make up for all the years that men held women back so I'm letting my wife bring home the bacon and I fry it up in a pan. It's only fair!!!
As you can guess…I'm a little busy right now to be an activist but I do preach the conservative gospel to all that will listen. I think Chicago Ralph might have some Tea Party connections though…
p.s. After you take some well deserved time off and if finding work is slow make sure you let me know…I might know a person or two. (Connections…it's the Chicago Way!)
Well, I'm sorry about your job, but it certainly DOES sound like you're smelling like a rose now! That must be so nice to spend all that time with your little boy. Congratulations on that, by the way!! I'm glad you & your family can make it work, since there's still an income. I'll eventually have to go back to work when my savings get low (or I get way too bored), unless I find Prince Charming pretty soon! Haha.

Thanks for the lowdown! That's cool about the double-posts. I go to the Bigs for Andrew, too, but there are so many screen names I don't recognize, and the trolls seem to have taken over to some extent. I really like that Navy has the dedication tab to Andrew to reassure that it's not "traitorous" or something to come here. This site is what Andrew was all about (IMHO).
